Features 01
Problems that can be solved
The MK-770 detector identifies the location of gas/air leaks and corona discharge simply by aiming the device at the target equipment. The location of gas/air leaks and corona discharges can be identified exactly, even at locations as far away as 10 to 20 meters*.
*The detection distance depends on the gas species and the amount of the leakage or discharge quantity of electric charge.
【Gas/air leak detection】
Manufacturing plants use complex piping systems to distribute compressed air, fuel gases and other types of gases to individual factories and installations. However, through-holes may have generated in these pipes due to aging, corrosion, wall thinning, etc., allowing the gas to leak.
Until now, inspections for gas/air leaks were time-consuming as it was carried out manually by techniques that relied on the human five senses, for example, by listening to sounds or spraying soapy water. In addition, when inspecting overhead piping for gas/air leaks, it was necessary to build scaffolds or use an aerial work platform.
【Corona discharge detection】
In high-voltage substation equipment, the condition of the insulation deteriorates due to aging and other factors. If deterioration progresses, resulting in dielectric breakdown, there is a heightened risk that serious trouble may occur. Equipment stops and plant fires can be prevented in advance by detecting corona discharge, which is an early sign of dielectric breakdown.
Features 02
Technology highlight
The MK-770 is equipped with an array of multiple ultrasonic sensors arranged flat, and identifies the location of gas/air leaks or direction of the location of corona discharges by computing the slight difference in the arrival time of the ultrasonic waves. The location of the leak or corona discharge is shown on the display, superimposed on an image captured by a high-resolution visual camera installed on the same plane as the ultrasonic sensors.
As other features, sensitivity adjustment is automated, and a function that uses a proprietary algorithm to control noise (flickering) is provided. This patented technology also minimizes the number of sensors, achieving a compact, lightweight unit.
【Gas/air leakage detection】
In leak detection, the amount of leakage and cost of the loss are calculated using the sound pressure value (ultrasonic strength) and displayed. Because the sensors selected for use in the detector are not affected by audible noise, gas/air leaks can be detected even in noisy environments.
【Corona discharge detection】
The MK770 detects the ultrasonic waves generated by the discharge during insulation degradation, and judges whether insulation degradation has occurred or not based on the intensity of the characteristic periodic component (period 2 times the frequency of the power source) that occurs in case of insulation degradation.
